Winter Camping Trip Through a Service Provider

  Killarney, Ontario

Starting Idea: Embark on winter excursion hosted by a service provider to learn about what skills and resources are needed for winter camping.

Please note: Because this a back-to-back PJ and QJ, it is imperative that the debrief is conducted immediately as it is critical the team is aware of any issues and challenges encountered and can plan accordingly to make the necessary modifications for the next days’ QJ.

We will determine our level of preparation and readiness for our QJ by joining together as a team in person and getting to know one another better. We will also practice snowshoeing, setting up our shelter, identifying animals/tracks and cooking for ourselves. During our Practice Journey we will review our gear and outdoor skills with a focus on winter survival to ensure we are properly prepared for the next two days. We will debrief as a team with our Supervisor to determine if any changes need to be made to our QJ plans.

For our QJ we will spend 2 days and 1 night in Killarney working closely as a new team to successfully winter camp. We will spend our days ensuring our basic needs are met while exploring Killarney by snowshoe and identify the different animals living in the forest. We will take notes and pictures of the different animals we spot or see tracks for and the skills we use to successfully survive in the forest in the winter. Before going home we will debrief the experience as a group to share what we learnt, what stood out the most and how this experience will impact us in the future.
