My name is Brooke McNeil! I am from Halifax, NS and currently living in Moncton, NB.
I love the outdoors, hiking, camping and adventuring in my backyard. I love meeting new people, trying new things, and spending time with friends, family and my big dog, Beau.
I began my Award journey in junior high and achieved all award levels by the time I graduated high school in 2015. Before moving away, I also spent a short time on the Board of Directors of the program in Nova Scotia, Halifax, NS, Alumni.
The Award brings people together from many different backgrounds and asks us to work together for a common goal. My greatest Award memory was meeting other youth from all over the country in Alberta, celebrating the 50th year of the program in Canada. A small number of us were selected from each level of the Award to complete our adventurous journeys in true Canadian style. We completed our Silver adventurous journey by hiking and horseback through the Tonquin Valley in Jasper National Park. I am forever grateful for all of the experiences, lessons, and memories I have gained through the Award.
Overall, the Award has helped me be a more well-rounded person. I know the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle, giving back to my community and trying new things that make me happy. It has really helped me with work-life balance, as well as stepping outside of my comfort zone when I moved away from home. I believe that each area of the Award has given me skills for every part of my life today.
The Award opens doors. It has made me a stronger and more confident person. A lot of people are already doing the things required for the Award, participating will give them a community and something to strive for. Now that I’m living in NB, I hope to find a way to remain involved with the Award.
