Born and raised in Halifax NS, Jonathan Ferguson joined the Award in junior high, completing his Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards in junior high, high school, and his first year of university, respectively.
Jonathan has since served as President of his university’s student union, worked for MPs on both sides of the aisle in the non-partisan Parliamentary Internship Programme, and currently works as the Chief of Operations on the Public Health Agency of Canada’s COVID-19 Emergency Task Force. Jonathan will begin pursuing a law degree at McGill University this August.
“The Award pushed me to stay active physically and intellectually, as well as remain engaged with my community. The more I did, the more I realized I could do. The Award was key to helping me realize the potential each of us has to make a positive impact!
The flexibility embodied by the award encouraged me to take initiative and problem-solve outside of the box – it encouraged me to stay creative.
The Award continues to instill a feeling of civic responsibility to contribute to thriving, supportive, and empathetic communities – a feeling of needing to contribute positively to one’s community where possible, which continues to guide me today.”
